Some recent quotes...

Tert and Filia were delighted when their cousin got an Ernie doll, and their brother got "Burp."  (Needless to say, we don't have TV :)

Tert was talking about who he might like to marry.  After a little musing he said, "Ava might be a good resource!"

The other day Tert needed something in his room where the baby was sleeping, so he said, "Mom, can I PLEASE wake the kids?   I'll keep them contained for you!"

Rus - "If I tell Mom that I want a new snake for SCHOOL, she might be kind of stretchy." (He meant flexible).

Rus - "Mom!  We almost disproved Newton's Second Law of Motion today!!"

I was reading a biography of Isaac Newton aloud to the boys and commented on how difficult it must have been for him to study in a room with the distraction of boisterous, partying roommates.  Rus nodded, "Yeah, I think the closest thing to that would be me studying with Lux screaming and Tert playing "Angry Birds" on the Kindle.

Filia spelled a made-up word that sounded quite familiar.  I asked the boys where I'd heard "E-R-A-S" before, and Rus answered without blinking, "Oh, it's just the Latin verb "sum" in the imperfect tense."

Rus's advice to his 1 year old brother who pulled down a cutting board covered in gingerbread decorations..."You'd better RUN for a city of refuge!!!"

Filia - "Mom, are you just giving me this treat to keep me quiet?"

Stephen and I enjoyed a night away at a hotel after Christmas.  Filia and Tert were arguing whether we had gone on a field trip or a date.  :)

Me - "Hey, Rus, what happens when you add zero to a number?"
Rus - (having a huge mental block and overthinking the question...) "Umm, that wouldn't be a chemical change, so would it be a physical change?"

Surprisingly, my favorite subject to teach has been SCIENCE.  Since I was home schooled by a creative Mom who let my brothers and me learn by collecting pets and "making memories," it seems only natural to fill the corners of our small home with animals.  We have a bird hanging in our living room, a beta fish on the boys' bedroom wall, a gecko and crickets on Leo's dresser, and a big dog in our dining room.  We also have a blast with all manner of scientific experiments.  The other day I was teaching the boys about centripetal force, so I surprised then with a handmade "King David" slingshot.  We are working on a photo journal of the rest of the crazy stuff we're up to and look forward to sharing it in the spring.  :)
