"A university [or homeschool] is an alma mater, knowing her children one by one, not a foundry, or a mint, or a treadmill." John Cardinal Newman

This week marked the grand completion of our bean and corn study. A few weeks ago, the kids covered some leaves with Vaseline (one on the top and one on the bottom) to see where the stomata (breathing holes) are located. Turns out that they are on the bottom. We also covered a leaf with foil, blocking the sun and preventing photosynthesis. You can see that it shriveled up and died.
It was so neat to see the eagerness with which the kids tackled these experiments. Each time grandparents would come for a visit, they'd run for their science journals and update them on their diagrams and notes.
