It's that time of year again...
We put in our garden this past week, and I wanted to share some photos, tips, and lists with you. (To see last year's gardening post click here.)
We had kept last year's gardening list, so this year's shopping was a lot easier. We went the Friday before Memorial day, and it was perfect! There was a huge selection of plants, but it wasn't too early so we haven't gotten any low temperatures at all. The plants looked a LOT healthier too. I think last year was just a really bad year for gardening.
(Note: We went to Blackforest Nursery for almost everything and Agway for the sunflowers, a bale of hay, and a few gardening supplies.)
So, on to the list of plants...
We always start with some flowers for the front. We usually get 3 6-packs of our favorite types. This year we also got 3 6-packs of ground-cover as well.
Next, we bought some bug-repelling flowers. We plant these right in front of our garden.
4 6-packs marigolds
2 6-packs petunias
1 tub impatiens
1 6-pack begonia mixes
4 sunflowers (already started)
Next came the herbs.
1 6-pack parsley
1 tub dill
1 tub sage
2 6-packs basil
1 tub rosemary
1 tub thyme
1 tub scallions
1 tub cilantro
1 tub oregano
1 tub stevia
1 tub chocolate mint
1 tub fennel
This year we got a lot of tomatoes!
1 tub red grape
1 6-pack lemonboy (yellow tomatoes)
1 6-pack cherry
1 6-pack supersweet
2 6-pack jetstar
1 6-pack roma
Squash and Cukes are very popular around here.
1 cuke 6-pack
1 6-pack bush pickle cukes
1 6-pack zucchini
1 6-pack yellow squash
1 6-pack butternut
Peppers
1 red 6-pack
1 yellow 6-pack
1 green 6-pack
1 banana 6-pack
Lettuce
We didn't do lettuce from seeds this year. The plants were already started for us. We've already had a couple huge salads from the 6-packs we got of buttercrunch, mesclun and ruby red.
For beans and peas we got a bag of purple, yellow and green beans and one bag of sugar snap peas.
We also bought a 6-pack each of broccoli and cabbage.
Here is all of our plants!
We have quite a few flowerbeds, so we bought mulch in bulk this year from Poirier Landscaping. We got 2 cubic yards of mulch, and it was the perfect amount.
So far our garden is growing really well. I will post some more pictures when our plants are bigger!
