4th of July 2014 By: Siobhan

Happy Fourth of July Everyone!
Mom always makes us a delicious meal, but apparently Lux didn't want to wait...
Ribs, Potato Salad, Coleslaw, Corn, Broccoli Salad, and Sweet Potato Fries
For dessert I made a flag cake. This was SO much fun. I made a white cake with white chocolate frosting. I got the idea from a blog called 17 and Baking. It was so much fun! I simply bought white cake mixes and dyed two of my cakes red and blue and left the other cake white. Then I assembled them, which was a little tricky, but doable. I found a blog called Delectable Deliciousness which gave a good picture of how your cakes should look before you assemble them:

First, you want to level your cakes. Then cut your red and white cakes in half horizontally. Set aside one layer each of red and white cake. Then take a bowl or cup 3-4 inches in diameter and cut a circle outside of 1 red cake layer, 1 white cake layer, and your blue cake. Keep the outer ring of the blue, but keep the inner circles of the red and white. The picture above makes this much more clear!
Place your layer of white cake on a cake board. Frost this, and top it with a red layer. Frost that. Then top it with your blue ring. Frost the inside of the ring, and then top with your white cake circle, then your red cake circle. Frost the entire cake.
Then....
Voila! You have an incredibly delicious, gorgeous 4th of July cake.
Happy Fourth!
