Edible Cell Science Experiment Leo (Ethan) Age: 12

   In science this year, Rus and I are studying Human Anatomy and Physiology.  For the first week, we studied cell anatomy.  In an experiment, we were shown how to make an edible cell.  Here is a list of the ingredients that we used and what parts of the cell each represents.

Cell Membrane and Cytoplasm: Pam Spray and Jell-O
Mitochondria: Jelly Beans (power source)
Lysosomes: White Chocolate Beads ("Police Officers." They protect the cells by ridding them of bacteria and break down old chemicals)
Golgi Bodies: Licorice Strips ("Grocery Stores." They store chemicals such as fats and proteins, delivering them to different parts of the cells)
ER (Endoplasmic Reticulum) with and without Ribosomes: Mini Pretzel Sticks ("Delivery Trucks and Garbage pick-up."  They deliver chemicals from other parts of the cell to where their needed.  They also eliminate waste from the cell.
Centrioles: Trident gum ("Mothers." They help the cells reproduce.)
Nucleus: Gum drop ("Government"  They give cells instructions on how to operate. They also produce RNA and DNA.)
