How to Make Your Own Wormery By: Stella

Hello Everyone!  The boys were learning about worms in science and one of their experiments was making their own wormery.  It is very simple and awesome for your garden.
We ordered these composting worms (click the link to go to the site.) We used almost all the worms, but we dumped the rest in our garden.
Next we laid out our supplies: A five gallon bucket (it could be a bit smaller; you don't need all that space) worms, and paper (newspaper or brown paper)
Rip the paper into small pieces and stuff them into the bucket until it is almost full.
 Stuffing it in...
Next add water: a cup at a time. The paper should begin to sink to the bottom.
If there is excess water, dump it out.
Dump in your worms.  They will come in the soil that you see.  Watch them wriggle down!
Get some composting items such as eggshells, greens (no seeds!) coffee grounds, teabags w/out staples, etc. (Not the tag! We didn't notice that was there when we took the picture :P)
You can make a little lid for your wormery out of plastic if you want, but usually we just keep it out on our deck.  We water it once a day, dumping out the excess water as we did before.
After the composting items decompose, add a little more and before long you will get a nice layer of compost to put in your garden.
