Kindergarten Time Capsule By: Siobhan aka Stella

Hello Everyone!  Tert and I recently did a really fun Kindergarten Time Capsule
Here are his 'All About Me' sheets:
I have 3 pets at home (Cora the Black Lab, Valentine the Betta and Roy the Gecko)
His favorite food is 'Pig' :)
He loves four-wheelers, motorcycles and monster trucks
Besides the printouts, I had him do his hand-print with paint on construction paper.
He also put in his favorite type of car and toy
Tert put in the motorcycle to remind him to buy a motorcycle, and he put in the one with the headless rider so he would remember to be careful when he rides it.
Tert put in this car so he would remember to buy a Ferrari
I also measure how tall he was with a piece of yarn and laced it through a heart that said 'This is how tall I was'
The completed time capsule had some of his best worksheets/coloring sheets, the time capsule printables, a self-portrait, a current family photo, the heart with how tall he was, his motorcycle and his ferrari.
We decorated the time capsule with some jumbo letters we found in Home Depot to put on our mailbox

Below is the link to the site where I got all of the time capsule printables from:
If that doesn't work try this link and click 'All About Me Printable Book.'

Edible Cell Science Experiment Leo (Ethan) Age: 12

In science this year, Rus and I are studying Human Anatomy and Physiology.  For the first week, we studied cell anatomy.  In an experiment, we were shown how to make an edible cell.  Here is a list of the ingredients that we used and what parts of the cell each represents.

Cell Membrane and Cytoplasm: Pam Spray and Jell-O
Mitochondria: Jelly Beans (power source)
Lysosomes: White Chocolate Beads ("Police Officers." They protect the cells by ridding them of bacteria and break down old chemicals)
Golgi Bodies: Licorice Strips ("Grocery Stores." They store chemicals such as fats and proteins, delivering them to different parts of the cells)
ER (Endoplasmic Reticulum) with and without Ribosomes: Mini Pretzel Sticks ("Delivery Trucks and Garbage pick-up."  They deliver chemicals from other parts of the cell to where their needed.  They also eliminate waste from the cell.
Centrioles: Trident gum ("Mothers." They help the cells reproduce.)
Nucleus: Gum drop ("Government"  They give cells instructions on how to operate. They also produce RNA and DNA.)

Rus's Cell
Leo's Cell

Stella, Tert and Filia made their own cells too.
We pressed the candy into the bowl and then flipped it...

Aidan's 8th Birthday! By: Rus Pictures By: Stella

Hi. I'm Aidan. I am 8 years old. My birthday was not too long ago. Dad and I went out to a restaurant called McDonalds. I love McDonald's. I got a cheeseburger with bacon. Then we went to change the oil. And we went to Staples. And I got to play on a Kindle Fire sample. Then we went to go get my friend Caleb. then we went home and played with Caleb. then after I played with my friend we had a family party.
My birthday felt very special with all the loving gifts I got.

(To go to Aidan's birthday slideshow click here. Below are some of the pictures from the slideshow)
Aidan had C over to bounce on the trampoline.
For his birthday dinner Rus ordered ribs, potato salad, coleslaw, sweet potato fries, sunchips, corn and rootbeer.
Stella made Rus a chocolate cake with oreo pudding filling and buttercream frosting.
Tert: "I got this for you? But I've never even seen it before! Okay...You're welcome!"
Tert made Rus some beautiful cards.

Happy Birthday Rus! We love you.

Apple Cinnamon Spice Cupcakes By: Siobhan

Hello Everyone!
Today I have a delicious recipe I found on http://www.foodnfocus.com . I have loved every recipe I've gotten off of the site and subscribe to her weekly emails. It's for Apple Cinnamon Spice Cupcakes with Apple Pie Filling and Caramel Buttercream. It tasted as good as it sounds. It is a bit time-consuming so allow a couple hours for everything.
 Here are the ingredients:
  • 1 box Spice cake mix (I couldn't find a spice cake mix, so I used a Classic Yellow Pillsbury)
Apple Pie Filling:
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ tablespoon apple juice, apple cider, or lemon juice (I used lemon juice)
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground clove
  • ⅛ cup cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups apples, cored, peeled, and chopped
Caramel Buttercream:
  • ⅓ cup shortening
  • ⅓ cup butter
  • ⅓ cup caramel ice cream topping
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 cups confectioner’s sugar

Step 1: Prepare your (cup)cake mix. Let cupcakes cool.
Step 2: Cut up apples into tiny pieces.
Step 3: Place apples in boiling water for 4-5 minutes until tender and not at all crunchy.
Step 4: Drain (My apples got a little too soft, but they tasted fine)
Step 5: While the apples drain, mix water, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and cornstarch. Bring to a low boil.  Mixture will thicken. Add apples and vanilla.
Step 6: Let cool.
Step 6: Core cupcakes. I didn't have a cupcake corer, so I took my 1M Wilton Decorating tip and pushed the circular end (NOT the tip) into the cupcake.  It worked really well. You're going to want to push in deeply.
Step 7: Scoop as much filled as fits into the cupcakes.
Step 8: Whip together butter and shortening. Add caramel and vanilla and whip until well combined. Add confectioner's sugar, 1 cup at a time and mix until well blended. Add frosting until it is stiff, but not too stiff to pipe.
Step 9: Pipe frosting onto cupcake (I used my 1M tip) and drizzle with additional caramel.
Here's the inside of a cupcake.
We will definitely make this recipe again!
