'Making Hearts' Apologia Science Experiment Pictures By: Siobhan

Recently the boys had an experiment in science to 'make their own hearts' with graham crackers, marshmallows, toothpicks, frosting and food coloring.
Step 1: Break the graham crackers
Step 2: Dye the frosting, one bowl blue and the other red
Step 3: Frost one graham cracker blue and the other pink. Also frost the marshmallows blue and red.
Shaila made hers all pink :)
 When can we eat it?

Merry Christmas 2013! Pictures By: Siobhan

Happy Holidays from Your Friends at Alma Mater! We hope your holidays were as blessed as ours. :)
Stella found some recipes for peppermint fudge and orange dream fudge.
We had lots of fun decorating and preparing for the holidays.
Stella sewed this gingerbread countdown calendar
Little C joined us just after Thanksgiving. It was fun for the mommies and babies to finally see each other. C and Lux are such sweet additions to the family.
We also had fun making Christmas cookies!
Filia just enjoyed eating them :)
Rus' gingerbread men were a big it
...As was Leo's gingerbread man who lived in a 'shoe'
Our ham dinner on Christmas Eve was delicious!
Christmas morning finally came and everyone loved their presents...
Lux proceeded to eat his new hat
...and his wipes warmer
Tert was obviously shocked by the above present :)
I made a family tree patchwork for Mom and Dad. It is now hanging in the prime spot in the living room above the couch!
Merry Christmas Everyone!

Leo and Rus's Anatomy With Pictures By: Siobhan

Hello Everyone!

The boys (Leo and Rus) have really enjoyed their Apologia Anatomy curriculum. We have done an Edible Cell Experiment post, but here are some miscellaneous pictures from different science experiments and notebooking projects.
The boys have their own 'Personal Persons' pages of their notebooks where they add different systems (i.e. respiratory, circulatory, etc.) as they study them.
The boys did an experiment where they found out what it would be like to not have any bones. They made little play dough figures.
Afterwards they stuck toothpicks in them
They were much more sturdy
Notebooking...
The boys did a fun experiment to see why we need fluids in our head. They knew an egg that was shaken around in a container would break. For the experiment they stuck an egg inside a tupperware filled with some water and brought it on the trampoline.
It didn't crack!
Then they did a stomach juice experiment. Rus was pretty grossed out.
For this one they stuck some bread in some water and squeezed it like our stomach does...
Mooooomm!!
The boys have had a lot of fun so far. Stay tuned for more posts!

Field Trip to Hannaford Supermarket by Rus

Hello! I'm Rus. And I am going to tell you about my last trip to Hannaford. We went to the place where they store all there vegetables and fruits like leeks, potatoes and other stuff. They said that you should have 5 servings of vegetables a day. So they said that you should eat vegetables that are every color of the rainbow. Then we searched for different vegetables. After that we went to see things in the dairy. We looked at bread, muffins and CAKE! As we looked around we got to eat some cheese. They talked about all the ovens and stuff behind the counter. Then we got to pat a lobster! As we walked through the store we went into a fridge! Not the type of fridge you have at home. Then as we walked through the fridge we saw that the dairy products got to slide down to the counters wee! So as we got out of the fridge said well at least we didn't go in the freezer. That was a mistake. Then we went into the freezer! brr! it was -5 degrees in there! We then went out and went to the pharmacy where they give you medicine. Then we went to the customer service were they help you when you are lost in the store. Then we went to go. And we got some cool bags. Remember stay healthy :)

DI DENTAL By: Leo Age: 8 Grade: 3

This Year I did DI!
DI is a team sport in wich minumum two people are involved.I think the most fun part was the end when we were able to work together at
regionels! Regionels is a fun place were we do many fun things such as the cake walk. This is when they
have twenty five number-squares in a circle, and twenty five contestents are aloud in
for 25 cents. They have the contestents are told to dance when they here music when
the music stops you have to hop to the closest square. They will pick a number and,if you are on the number they choose you get to pick a cake!!This year our team got a cake!Another fun thing to do is watching other teams perform,I think improv is
amazing.YOU HAVE TO MAKE THINGS UP ON THE SPOT!!!!Another type of chalenge is YOU'RE GONNA FLIP.This is the chalenge our team chose. Were requiered to *present an original story dramitizing how a person experiences a flip(change of view)about someone or something.Construct and feature atleast one puppet as a charecter in the story.Create a piece of live visualart. Two sidetrips and intergrate them into the story. You get 8 minutes to present your performence.Your team budget $125 US.Our story was about a girl who did not like brushing her teeth FLIP she is convinced
when she learns she has cavities. After our presentation we go to the cafe to eat.A while later we played outside. When I was outside I played football with Hannah and Elisa(two of the girls on the team) and another boy.I also played soccer with the rest of the team.My DI DENTEL TEAMMATES' NAMES ARE JAMES,STELLA,JACOB,ELISA,JOSH,HANNAH,AND ME (LEO).The last and most exciting part is the awards seromony where your team is scored. Our team was 6th place out of nine!!I think DI is very benificial in teaching teamwork well i will se you next TIME!!!
