Yes! We are at it again! More home repairs ;-)
First-before I begin this post I want to thank all of the men who have helped us in this repair. We couldn't have done it without them. And those of you who have kept us in your thoughts or prayers: we thank you so, so much too!
So without further ado- roofing!
We started roofing on Thursday. Mr. V came over with his nail gun and many other tools, along with the W boys. :-) Thursday was shingle day, and at the end of the day our roof was bare. Dad went out at 6:00 and filled in a 15 hour work day! Mr. V and the other boys did nearly as much. It was a SCORCHER! On the first day about 40-50 waters (100 total in the first two days) were consumed along with 40 Rice Krispy Bars just for snacks :-O Mom had to go out grocery shopping twice to get food for the workers...
Tert loved the Rice Krispys.
And whenever you have items that need storage? What better place than the chimney?
After a hard morning of ripping off shingles everybody was glad to come in for a yummy lunch: ham, pastromi and turkey sandwiches, pringles and fruit along with caramel filled cookies.
Yum, yum!
And then this was all that was left... ;-)
Back to work!
Everyone was very glad to get inside for a yummy supper:
Cheesy Asiago Rolls, Chips, Caprese Chicken Salad with yummy Tusco Italian Dressing and Oreos :-)
Another day with beautiful puffy blue clouds and a shining sun :-)
This is what we woke up to:
ONE WORD: MESS! Well, I'll hand it to them: they certainly did an amazing job of it! Even our bathroom was covered :-)
I worked along with them the next day; they needed at least five people to be able to peel the sticky Grace paper and set it in place... (There really was nothing graceful about it!) Then came tar paper after the roof was swept and checked carefully for any nails that needed to be hammered down or staples that needed to be pulled.) Everybody was very grateful when "Lunchtime!" came out through the door. Just at that moment everything grew a little crazy! The rest of the W family came over-the 7 kids and their Mom (though, I was saying to Mom that it didn't seem like we had many more kids here. I mean, what's the difference between 5 and 12? ;-) ) Mom had made a large spread, and there was plenty of food for the 16 people that hungrily pounced on the pulled pork sandwiches, black bean salad, chips, and fruit. Mom's pulled pork is famous throughout the W family ;-) S'mores completed the fabulous spread!
There was only one problem: seating. There weren't enough seats to go around, so we let the workers, Mom, and Mrs. W with the smallest kids sit inside, and the rest of us went outside. Tert and Rus left with the rest of their friends, and Leo and I went on the roof with 3 of the W kids :-) What better seat is that?
Back to work soon...
We had to melt tar off of the roof because the people took a shortcut and put the shingles on with TAR instead of nails. The heat gun got a workout-I'm telling you!
Then came hammering in nails and pulling staples...
There was always some down time...not to mention some silly moments :-)
That evening Mom made an amazing chili, which was quickly devoured along with the guacamole, cheese, sour cream, chips, salsa, salads, and breads!
For dessert Rus had planned an early surprise party for Dad. :-) I thought that was so sweet, and so we decked Mom's chocolate chip cheesecake with a candle (not sure where that is in this picture ;-)
Rus' sweet card for Dad says:
Happy Birthday Dad. You are so speshul (special). :-)
It took a lot of people to get this roof up!
Our good workers labored from dawn...
...till dusk!
As of now it is ALMOST!! complete, and we thank each and every one of you who gave us your assistance, thoughts, and prayers. We couldn't have done it without you!
