Retelling of Paul Revere by Rus

Rus is memorizing "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere."  He used that poem as a launching point for this creative writing assignment.

Time for Truth!
by
Aidan Piercey

In crowded Middlesex village there was a cozy house where the Reveres lived. It was a beautiful day when Paul went for his magnificent morning stroll. Suddenly the church bells started ringing. Pauljumped out of bed and flew out the door.  Paul was a silversmith , for his father had died and Paul , who had worked with his father before, took over the shop when he was young. He kept a tight schedule.  Here is some of it. Sweep past the British lines. Don't get killed...and so on. Paul did not work for the army until he was a man. He never missed action.
One sunny day Paul was very bored. He tried counting sheep. Then he fired at practice targets.  He even counted the amount of lambs and pig and cows that plowed passed . Suddenly he noticed a flame. Even though it was just a camp fire, Paul, who wanted some fun, ran to ring the bells. The enormous bells boomed. After everyone found that it was only a campfire they yelled at Paul.
After the excitement died down ,Paul, who was tired of running around, saddled his horse and rode through town pretending that British were coming .  Suddenly men poured out of their small
houses and waited. Nothing happened. Paul ran to his house. Then later when he was taking his
morning stroll, he actually saw the British. He ran through yelling, "The British are coming!"  All the men stayed in their houses. They didn't listen.  Suddenly Paul woke up startled from his dream. It was time for his famous midnight ride. He would not lie this time or ever again.

Montshire Museum Fieldtrip By: Rus

Hi. I am Rus. We went to the Montshire museum with our cousin Elim a little while ago.The Montshire museum was in Vermont...so it was a really long drive. There are four things that I liked the most at the museum.

    1. There was something new at the Montshire museum. There was a room [exhibit] on light. It is amazing that all the light around us is actually made up of all the colors of the rainbow! If you see light through a prism then the light will make all the colors of the rainbow. There was another thing in the new room that I loved. It was lasers. There were thing that the light bounced off of  to make a mini light show! And there was even a place were you could make colored shadows!

    2. The next thing I loved was the observatory! You had to go up a lot of stairs. There was the first floor. The first floor had the most stuff. The the second floor was a little smaller. Then there was the third floor. It was nothing but a balcony. The fourth floor was the same as the third. You would have to go up a couple more fliest of stairs to get to the observatory. The observatory was open and very high off the ground. You could see for miles. There was even an overpass that you could see very close up to with binoculars. You cold even see the mountains.

   3. Another thing  was an activity were you had to make arches that were free standing with no glue or tape. There was an arch were were blocks had to be stacked on one standing block. There was 1 then 2 blocks on top of that then 3,3,2,1. Then we had to make bridges and towers with no tape for the bridge! The tower we had 12 inches of tape. After that we did one more arch that stood with no tape or glue.

My three favorite things at the Montshire museum were these. This was one of the best field trips yet!

Some Adorable Quotes:

Filia - "God actually sees what's in we're (she meant our) minds?!?!  What if something just popped out of our heads and WE saw it!!!"

Filia was exercising with me and said, "Mom, I'm not fat because I haven't had a baby yet, but someday I'll be big enough for youth group and YOU can take care of my baby sister!"  (Note:  She prays pretty much every day for a baby sister...)  The other day Filia told Stella, "I didn't pray for a baby sister today.  I just prayed about your back so I wouldn't confuse Anyone."  :)

Overhearing a conversation between Tert and Filia while they were playing, I snapped to attention when Filia exclaimed, "TERT!  Don't say 'Ho, Ho, Ho' because I'm your WIFE!!!"

My mom read aloud and recorded the book "Killer Angels" to help with my Omnibus curriculum.  I gave it to Leo to listen to, and he came back to me with the report that "Grandma is reading all of those swear words pretty fluently!"

Montshire Museum 2015

Recently Mom, Leo, Rus, Tert, Filia, Elim and I went to the Montshire Museum of Science in Vermont. We had a great day and were also able to meet up with some friends. Thanks to Elim for coming with us and to Grandma for babysitting Lux. :)
One of our family's favorite exhibits is the air exhibit.
Filia insisted on a picture with the skeleton.
The above picture shows what a frog's vision looks like

Fog Machine
Leo and Elim loved the puzzles. Elim worked on this one for a long time and was very proud when she solved it. :)
Tert, Filia, and Rus had programs in the afternoon. We weren't able to get any pictures of Rus' program, but Mom got some of Tert and Filia's. They did experiments with lots of colors.

Blueberry French Toast By: Siobhan

This is by far my favorite french toast recipe. I make it every Mother's Day and occasionally for a special Sunday morning breakfast. I have posted a recipe for it before, but I think we have finally perfected the recipe, and I wanted to update it. This recipe works perfectly baked ahead, and I have made it with gluten-free bread, and it has come out just as delicious...

~Ingredients~

12 slices thick, stale Italian bread (we used fresh that had been out on the counter for a couple hours)10 oz. whipped cream cheese
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Cinnamon
4 cups blueberries, separated into 2 cups each
12 eggs, beaten in blender
2 cups milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup real maple syrup
(a generous) 1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup water
Lemon Juice
1 tablespoon butter

Slice the bread into about 1-inch slices. Arrange slices in a greased 9x13 pan.
In a small bowl, mix combine whipped cream cheese and powdered sugar
Spread bread with half of the cream cheese mixture.
 Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon
Sprinkle with a generous 2 cups blueberries
Top with the rest of the bread slices. Spread the slices with remaining cream cheese mixture and sprinkle with cinnamon.

In a blender, combine the eggs, vanilla, maple syrup, and milk. Blend.

Pour egg mixture over bread slices. Cover and soak overnight or for at least a couple of hours. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cover, and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 25-30 minutes until center is firm and top is lightly browned.
When I make this I often set it up Saturday morning, bake it Saturday night, and then I will pull it out of the oven and we will have a delicious breakfast for Sunday morning before church.
In a large saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, and water. Bring to a boil.
Add in remaining 2 cups blueberries. Simmer for 10-12 minutes or until blueberries burst. Add a dash of lemon juice. Remove from heat and stir in butter.
Top with warm blueberry sauce and whipped cream.
 Enjoy!
