Southern Regional Meal 2017 (Siobhan)

~Southern Regional Meal~

This weekend we cooked our Southern Regional meal for geography. We had the same meal we made last time we studied the south, because our southern recipes are so delicious! As always, recipe links and printables are throughout the post :)
Our main dish was an herb and spice southern fried chicken. It is our go-to fried chicken recipe!
For our first side dish, we made Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes.
Next we made cheesy cream corn
For dessert we had bittersweet chocolate pecan pie. And of course we had to serve it with a big scoop of vanilla bean ice cream!

Mid-Atlantic Regional Meal 2016 (Siobhan)

~Mid-Atlantic Regional Meal~

We finished our second region in geography: the Mid-Atlantic. We had fish as our main course this month, and we had some very yummy side dishes and dessert!
(As always, recipes are linked under the photos)
Roasted Potatoes
Asparagus with Gorgonzola
We had two types of fish: maple glazed salmon and parmesan tilapia.

Dessert was a sweet potato pie with marshmallow meringue. It was incredible! Everyone was very skeptical about sweet potato pie, because we are huge pumpkin pie lovers, but it was SO good.

New England Regional Meal 2016 (Siobhan)

~New England Regional Meal~

We finished our first region in geography, and that means we did our first regional meal! This week's region is New England. As always, I took lots of pictures. Scroll down to the end for a link to all of our regional meal posts!

Our main course was our Dry Rub Pork roast. It was delicious! We made it in the slow cooker, so it was very simple to prepare. In the morning, we chopped some onions, put the pork on top, added the rub and let it cook all day until dinner.

These roasted winter root vegetables were delicious! They were also made in a crockpot.

This brown bread recipe was so easy (it's a no-yeast bread), and we loved it. I was worried about the batter consistency, because it was extremely runny, but it turned out fine. We spread it with butter and drizzled a little honey on top.

We made apple dumplings for dessert. We topped them with french vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, and whipped cream.

We have been cooking a meal for every region we study in geography. This year we are doing U.S. geography, and we just finished studying the Mid-Atlantic region.
Every food we made came from a state or region within the Mid-Atlantic area.
 Banana Bread (DE)
 Bean Soup (D.C.)
 Crab Cakes (M.D.)
Apple Dumplings with Caramel Ice cream (D.C.)
We are looking forward to our Southern regional meal! To see our New England meal post, click here.

Geography Meals :) By: Stella

As I have written in previous posts... we are going through the U.S. in Geography. And, I know what you're wondering.... YES!!! OUR NEW MEAL IS UP!!!!

Here is the Menu:

Appetizers:
(Corn) Spoon Bread (Composed of corn, bacon, eggs, cheese, milk, etc. etc.) (Stella, Leo, and cousin E)
Sweet Potatoes (Mom)
And the Main Course is...

FRIED CHICKEN!!!

Fried Chicken (Right) Spoon Bread (Left)

Sweet Pot. and Spoon Bread (up close :) )

And finally, ooh la la!

D-licious :) looking Lord Baltimore Cake, which I recommend to you VERY, VERY highly! It was the most delicious ever! I am going to have it for my birthday cake!
We were shocked that this thick frosting formed out of 2 egg whites, a bit of brown sugar and vanilla!! :D
You make two cakes and put filling in between. The filling is a cup of this scrumptious frosting with some crumbled macaroons and ice cream topper cherries.
This is absolutely amazing and so big that it gave us three dessert nights! :D :D :D

If you would like the recipe, please e-mail me or comment on this post.

I'm happy to share any of the above recipes! <3

We are enjoying our journey through the U.S. and hope that you are too!

Geography Meals By: Stella

Hello All! This is Stella again, and I wanted to tell you about our geography.
This year we are doing the Trail Guide to U.S. Geography. It is really fun! We are moving on to the South, and I'll make another post with more pics. for that area. We also do regional meals for each section of the U.S.
First we did the New England area. We did our study of each state and had a grand finale by making Sconset Cafe Clam Chowder. Mom used to make this when she worked in a restaurant on Nantucket. It was scrrrumptious! :)
Making Chowder (Compliments of Mom, Leo and Stella)
For dessert we had Apple Dumplings-MMMM!!!!! :)
Compliments of Mom, Leo, and Stella)
I'm ready for supper!

Buffalo and Honey Chicken Any-tizers (Compliments of Dad, Rus, Tert, and Filia) with the Option of....

Celery Sticks and Blue Cheese Sauce-Compliments of Stella
Waldorf Salad with:
Grapes, Apples, Raisins, Celery and Marshmallows, Mayonnaise, and real Whipped Cream
Compliments of: Leo and Mom

MMMM!!!!!

Dessert:

No-Name Pie
Compliments of: Stella

This was a DEEEEEE-LICIOUS!!!! pie with a yummy raisiny sugary inside and a meringue topping with a yummy pie crust recipe from Grandma Z. I mean, you'd think- raisins in a pie? No way! But it was absolutely wonderful! Everyone loved it. Whipped cream is an excellent topping. The best part of this recipe is that you probably have most of the ingredients on hand!! :)
Any recipe seekers-we would be more than happy to give you the recipes for any of these delicious foods. The chicken any-tizers were just from the store-but they were very good. :)

We have had a wonderful time with our regional cooking, and we hope you've enjoyed comin' along with us! :) :) :)
