We had an absolutely amazing Easter, and I hope that you did too! :) I want to tell you a little bit about it.
Now, before I start anything, I want to apologize but no PICTURES WERE TAKEN! Everybody was just having a ton of fun and not thinking about pics...so I hope you'll just be happy with my little post about it. ;)
Well, after a large ham dinner on Saturday night, everybody went to bed full, and thinking about Easter the next morning. Everybody woke up with a smile on their face and Easter greetings to share. Mom set right to her cooking and the rest of us walked into the dining room. I had set the table the night before for breakfast so that we could all just enjoy the morning. The table was nice with our china plates and my little bags of jellybeans resting on each plate with Easter cards and the 'Jelly Bean Story.' This is an idea I got from Confessions (http://www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com)
Jelly Bean Story
Little jelly beans,
Tell a story true.
A tale of our Father's love
That's just for me and you.
RED is for the blood He gave.
GREEN is for the grass He made.
YELLOW is for the sun so bright.
ORANGE is for the edge of night.
BLACK is for the sins we made.
WHITE is for the grace He gave.
PURPLE is for His hour of sorrow.
Pink is for a new tomorrow.
Now that you've heard the story
You know what each color means.
The story of our Father's love
As told by jelly beans.
The boys, (and Filia) were thrilled, although I think it was mostly by the candy, because I got a lot of hugs... ;) Then we did a hunt from Mom and Dad. They had put it together the night before. Everybody loved it! It was from Doorposts. Mom and Dad printed verses; the first one was on my place and we started from there. It read as follows:
Mark 11:8 “And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way.” Everybody got this one pretty quickly! Every Saturday night we 'spread our garments in the way' by throwing our coats in a 'not so neat' pile on Cora (our black lab's) HUGE crate. We found a hint there that read:
Matt. 26:15 “And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. This next one was hidden in the coin jar. Leo racked his brain and in a moment quickly pulled out the next clue...
Luke 22:39 “And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.” Now this one was harder. Mom and Dad kind of hinted at this one, because Mom didn't have time to pick up olives. 'Olive oil' was our next hint and immediately everyone ran to the spinning cupboard, pulling out the next clue...
Matt. 26:26 “And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.” This was Tert's, and consequently easy. We keep our bread right on top of the fridge, and nestled underneath the loaf was the next clue...
Matt. 27:29 “And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!” This one was a bit harder, but like all of the clues, we eventually got it. Mom gave the hint: "We didn't put it in the THORNS, but look at knee." After a moment of thinking I went to the closet and pulled out kneepads and out tumbled our next clue...
John 19:17 “And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha”This one still makes me cringe to think about the clue... We have a skeleton costume, really scary actually, with all of the bones in the human body. So, to the 'skull' costume the boys ran and came upstairs with the next clue....
Matt 27:48 “And straightway one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.” Vinegar! This was pulled out and the next clue appeared...
Matt. 27:45 “Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.” This one wasn't too hard...On the back of the clock was our answer...
Matt. 27:59 “And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth.” To the bathroom and into the towels we searched and out came the next clue...
John 19:41 “Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.” You might have guessed what we used for this... No? Well, fortunately I had MADE a sepulchre.... Still don't get it? Scroll down the posts and you will see that I recently made a Easter Garden where I had a flowerpot for a tomb. :P We all had a huge laugh over that...
(This is a picture from Erica-thanks so much Erica! It is of the Easter Garden.)
Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. We headed to the spices and found a post-it note which read: Happy Easter! Under Mom's and Dad's bed you will find a pink bag which MOM will open. (You can tell we have excited little boys in this house.) :)
After that we received our gifts... Stella and Filia received matching purple Easter dresses. Leo received a Jonathan Park CD. Rus received a Leapster Explorer Pixar Pals game. Tert received a new watch.
Everyone exclaimed happily over their gifts and then went on a chocolate Easter egg hunt. After this everyone sat down to a delicious breakfast of sausage, Easter eggs that we had dyed on Friday, and some Raspberry cake. This was followed by orange juice and our Easter candy.
After our church service and some fellowship with friends, we all went home and Mom and I got together a yummy lunch of: Triscuits and some Tomato-spice chips, and all different types of yummy cheeses, Chicken Bites with Barbecue Sauce and Ketchup, Barbecued Meatballs, Shrimp with cocktail sauce and Penny's Poppy Salad. This is a delicious salad-both light and refreshing. It is salad tossed with Poppy Seed Dressing (we get Newman's Own) and Rotisserie chicken with some strawberries, pineapple, mandarin oranges, and other delicious fruits. An amazing lunch, and it was followed by a little resttime, then some activities outside. After a walk in the evening, Mom, Dad, Leo, and I all watched a Waltons episode, ending an absolutely amazing Easter.
Happy Easter to One and All!
